Rebuilt alternator

Remanufactured alternators

A car cannot run if its alternator is broken. Fortunately, the driver is alerted to a malfunction in this element by various signs. Among other things, we can cite low brightness in terms of lighting, both inside and outside the vehicle. When the alternator is not working well, the car's electrical needs cannot be met.

Today, it is no longer necessary to systematically replace this part once it breaks down. The most interesting solution is remanufacturing. Professionals recover the defective element and do in-depth work on it to allow it to regain its performance from the first days. After alternator remanufacturing, you will have the impression of having purchased a brand new part.

What is an alternator?

Cylinder-shaped, the alternator is the part that supplies electrical energy to the car engine from the battery. It is also this room which is responsible for powering accessories such as air conditioning, heating and lighting. The alternator is also involved in providing energy for starting the vehicle. And when it is running, the room continues to supply electricity, which allows the battery to be recharged when necessary. The alternator does all this thanks to its belt and coil.

Operating the alternator

The question that is legitimate to ask is how the alternator manages to produce electricity. To understand this, we must refer to a physical principle long developed and exploited in the manufacture of engines and integrated into the construction of cars since 1960. This involves the winding of a copper coil on a magnet.

In this principle, once the engine is started, the coil turns thanks to the belt of an alternator and this results in the production of an electric current. It is a principle of magnetic induction favoring the creation of a voltage across the coil.

But in the case of the vehicle alternator, the electromagnet rotates inside three coils. And therefore, 3 alternating three-phase voltages offset by 120° are produced and rectified into a direct voltage.

The alternator produces energy whose level is proportional to the rotation speed of the electromagnet and its power. This power, in turn, is proportional to the level of the excitation current.

What does alternator remanufacturing involve?

Cars absolutely need an alternator to be supplied with electricity. However, various breakdowns can occur and jeopardize the operation of this important part. The most common is a mechanical breakdown that causes the battery to take over to supply the car with electricity. Normally, the driver should see a light on his dashboard indicating that his alternator is no longer working and that it is the battery which is continuing the work. But it often happens that the light does not come on. The driver therefore does not know that his alternator is out of service and realizes it when it is too late, when the car refuses to start.

It is also not uncommon for the breakdown to be due to a failure of the alternator belt. When it is too worn, its operation may be disrupted and this can be known by a noise under the hood.

If your alternator is broken, it would be better to contact a specialized service for its remanufacturing. Professionals will recover the part and carry out several actions to renovate it.

A whole process must be followed for the alternator to work perfectly. It will be necessary, among other actions, to dismantle it, clean it and replace defective parts. The professionals responsible for remanufacturing work rigorously to ensure that the operation of the remanufactured alternator meets the driver's expectations.

The advantages of remanufacturing an alternator

Remanufacturing your alternator is more advantageous than purchasing a new part. Firstly, on an economic level, satisfaction is guaranteed, because the operation costs less than the cost of a brand new alternator. However, the remanufactured part works just as well as the one purchased new.

Remanufacturing is an excellent option when you know that original parts for certain brands are difficult to find. Also, it is an ecological approach, because it is a kind of recycling that is done. Remanufacturing avoids throwing broken alternators into the environment, which helps take care of the environment.
